To be honest, I don't understand why Dandy is so upset. Did the author not give him a good hint? It seems to me that the author's goal is to make the walkthrough more challenging, not easier. Regarding the cubic equation, I agree that not everyone will come up with the trick of substituting variables, but people figured it out hundreds of years ago.
