To be fair, the jokes there are rather simple, like "Plug the Tribble into the warp drive breach" or "Everyone watched Voyager just for Seven of Nine's boobs," and they didn't even mention the most epic Q. In the verse about the Gorn, they could have made some good jokes about Quark (although it's hard to imagine it being funnier than Quark in his natural habitat in the series itself). But now I've written it and I realize - yes, to laugh at the song, you need to at least have a rough idea of what the franchise and fandom are all about.
