Regarding the poor starting position for Castle: what else could you expect when buying it for 4200?
This time I decided not to fall behind in GM, unlike in the first game. On day 123 I had GM4. Once I got Dimension Door, I spent a turn on the Dragon Utopia and then headed straight to the opponent. As it turned out, the one day spent on the Dragon Utopia didn't allow me to leave the opponent without Dimension Door. My army was in decent shape, and I found an Animate Dead scroll. Still, skeletons aren't fighters in the final battle: the speed bonus and HP bonus don't work.
When the Necro player defended, Taz was showing 5-9 angels and 4th-level Knowledge with 24 mana. But he attacked with 17 angels and 80 mana! Even my mage with 500 mana, Animate Dead, and Meteor didn't save me.
The opponent, on the other hand, had a skilled Dragon Utopia duo with КЗ within 2k movement points from the starting town, which allowed him not to rebuild GM4. And overall the roads were excellent.
