I was struggling with the first clue yesterday (or whenever), but alas. Since it's the first one, there's probably some super-complex part to it, which sets the whole thing in motion. For example, synonyms of a word or people with similar initials, something like that.

The Mafia figured out Alex Strade through checks and a table. The Mafia didn't kill anyone tonight, Strade's protection wasn't removed, so we won't execute him today, but the next day, the Master will try to convince everyone that we removed the First Warrior's protection from execution, after killing either me or Nefele during the night.
