Raymond Holm (Fragment) didn't feel well. He got out of bed with great difficulty. And during breakfast, he didn't touch the food, indifferently watching the others.
Raymond was dreaming. Falling, a whistling in his ears, a crash. Darkness. He comes to on a hospital bed, all broken. Unable to move or fall asleep again, he stares blankly into space. Morning begins, gradually becoming lighter. His vision starts to pick out objects that don't match the surroundings of the ward. Oh, right... Schmerthlofer.
Raymond sat up heavily on the bed and looked around the room he was in. It was quite comfortable, and he wasn't used to that. After his miserable little room at home, his presence here seemed unreal. Reaching for his jacket, he pulled out a flask of vodka he had hidden and took a small sip. The feeling of weakness began to subside.
Going down for breakfast, he met Schmerthlofer and his team. The meaning of his words escaped Raymond, as if water through a sieve, and the feeling of unreality only intensified. He had no appetite at all, although he understood that he should eat something. The vodka he drank seemed to be asking to come out, even though he had only taken a couple of small sips. Without saying a word to anyone, Raymond left the room.

In short, Fragment, you do... not that. Don't let that happen to you.
Regarding the clue, the Master's version is not bad, except for the beginning; Gumilev is clearly unnecessary there, and you can't transition from him to the Iranian-Byzantine War. You can transition from him to the ancient Turks, but that's different, and I couldn't find any references to just the Turks. The rest of the links seem to fit. I'll try to guess too.
Okay, for now, let's lynch Nefela, and wait to see what she says and what we find in the clue.
