“Nabucco” is an opera by Giuseppe Verdi with a libretto by Temistocle Solera (1842, premiered at the Teatro alla Scala). The chorus “Va, pensiero” from this opera gained the status of a hymn of the Risorgimento, was considered a candidate for the national anthem of Italy, and continues to be considered the unofficial anthem of the Italian region of Padania and is performed at all events of the Italian political party “Lega Nord.”

The last opera by Verdi, “Falstaff,” with a libretto by Arrigo Boito, a librettist and composer, was based on Shakespeare’s play “The Merry Wives of Windsor” in a French translation by Victor Hugo, and developed the “through-composed” style.
