Who knows? A player in a sports-themed Mafia game isn't typically constrained by the usual Mafia game rules. However, the chance of being eliminated as a result of such tactics is definitely not zero. Perhaps you underestimated the flexibility of the players' minds, who will dance to the tune of your fingers? Maybe you underestimated the fact that a "fatal loss for the town" with 100% of the townspeople still alive isn't a very strong argument.
If that's the case, then I sincerely sympathize with you. Nevertheless, for now, this is the main reason why I might withdraw my vote for you. I don't know about you or others, but I'm enjoying the game over these two days. I think we're doing well.
