I made a vow to myself to always answer teachers honestly.

I started practicing honest answers in my final years of university. It was amusing. When asked why I hadn't learned the material, I would answer that I didn't want to and that I didn't give a damn about studying here. Of course, in a more polite way. But in general, people look at you like you're crazy when you stop making up ridiculous excuses for everything.
