In my last game as Inferno, I also had 20-49 GOG units wanting to join me.
I confess, my hand almost trembled; I really wanted to take them, especially considering my army.
Free stuff is free stuff!
I probably stared at that window with the offer to join for a whole minute.
But, as I said, reason still prevailed over this temptation.
The temptation was great; these GOG units wouldn't have helped me in any way; it could only bring trouble...

After all, we Russians love freebies more than anything else! Oh well...

Thus, I honestly admit that the fleeting thought of joining, despite being fully aware of the rules, did occur...

In Alex_R's case, however, the situation is completely different.
Due to recent discussions and rule changes, some confusion has arisen, at least in my mind.

I like when the rules are clearly defined and written down where they should be.
And I know that I am not alone.
The vast majority of players, I am sure, play fairly and expect fair play from their opponents,
which is why they repeatedly requested that the rules be written down,
for example here and here.

For example: as you know, the Dimension Door spell is prohibited.
But during that same game as Inferno, it appeared in the guild of mages.
However, nowhere in the rules is there a prohibition on this spell.
I learned about the ban much earlier only through personal initiative,
by communicating with the organizers and participants of the tournament.

Here is another example. Do all players know that the Water Walk spell
is prohibited in tournaments? Not yet? Well, I just found out.
The rules are unwritten, not documented anywhere, and a player may accidentally
(or even intentionally) violate them, saying that he did not know about it.

Regarding diplomacy and joining – so many conversations have taken place,
so many discussions... one can get confused.
As I see it, Alex_R got confused and didn't realize it right away.
True, according to him, he remembered later, but it was too late.
Furthermore, from what Alex_R and invisible said in this game, I understood
that this joining could not have affected the outcome of the game.
After studying the save files attached in the reports, I confirmed this opinion.

In general, I don't know if it's Alex_R's fault for not having time to study the recently changed rules,
or the tournament organizers' fault for not being able to convey these rules to all participants,
but the fact remains: there was a violation of the rules.

And in connection with this, only the organizers can decide how significant
the degree of rule violation is in this game.

I, in turn, despite my respect for invisible, cast my vote in favor of Alex_R,
and will hope that the opinions of other forum members,
as well as the aspects mentioned above, will help the organizers reach a fair verdict.
