Battle of the Celestial Gates

Was the last battle easier than the one against Kahn?
I didn't quite understand what you meant about wandering underground. Kahn shouldn't have been able to get into the dungeon, let alone wander around for two weeks. Or are you talking about Kane?

No, I was the main hero who went into the dungeon because I only found it towards the end when Kahn arrived. But Kahn's army grew a lot; I had 410 Adepts against about 900 Archdevils, about a fivefold increase. I managed to win purely through subjugation and using the hives. And the last battle was the easiest of all the battles before that, especially since the artifacts were passed on to the main hero, Rai'lag. If I had cheated before and bought Kane and partially weakened the enemy's army at the approach, the enemies up to Kahn would have been even easier to defeat.
