Nonsense. If a patient truly doesn't want to get better, medicine is powerless, not to mention that half of psychiatrists are charlatans.
And going in with the mindset: "I'll just spill everything out, and they'll solve everything for me" is also pointless. There must be at least a subconscious understanding that you will have to work hard yourself.
It's better to sign up for boxing or even just hit the gym, so that constant fatigue turns psychoses into a mild depression, or just start drinking. Be careful with the latter.
And yes, things can be really difficult with creative hobbies. Today you are inspired and writing/drawing, and tomorrow you hate your work, yourself, and everyone in the world. And it's not always about the fact that there are people who do better than you in this area. Sometimes, you just get overwhelmed, and that's it.
And separately regarding alcohol – this definitely won't help. It will most likely worsen the situation.
