Yes, it's possible to do it without using the editor. Create a copy of the data.pak archive, extract the necessary files, copy them, and edit them using Notepad (xdb files can be edited with any text editor). Important: copy the files along with their folder paths.
Then, open the map file with any archiver and add the modified files, including their folders.

However, I believe this is beyond your current modding skills, and it would be better to first familiarize yourself with the basics; I can recommend a couple of resources that will help you understand everything.
