Yeah, I'm also leaning towards getting drunk and attacking. My character, on one hand, would role-play by talking first and theoretically negotiating something, but on the other hand, he would recognize the armed bandits and take action. And it's unlikely that a productive and effective dialogue will work out with them. I think it will sooner or later turn into a brawl.
