In dialogues with NPCs, you will be able to pass skill checks to convince them to do what you need (this doesn't work for all NPCs). It's not a given that there won't be negative consequences for your character in the future or present after such actions. It is desirable to role-play, and not just write "I intimidate."
- Persuasion: Intelligence vs. Intelligence
- Charm: Appeal vs. Willpower
- Intimidation: Strength vs. Strength and Awareness
- Deception: Cunning vs. Willpower and Awareness
To get a job, you will need to pass skill checks. For example, to get a job in a brothel, you need to pass a check for Intelligence and Appeal. The requirement for both is 20. Your character has 19 and 19 respectively. In this case, a roll of 19 will be made against 20.
- If your stats are 20 or higher, you automatically pass the check
- If the stats are twice as low as the requirements, the roll is not made, and you automatically fail the check
- Characters who have skills that allow them to pass a check using deception can pass it using deception
