Why don't you save screenshots in jpg format? You can also crop them, leaving only the battlefield. I haven't had any problems with the screenshot size limit. Moreover, when saving in jpg format, you can set the quality, which also determines the file size (not in Paint, but in other editors). And you somehow converted the image twice: first to gif (which reduced the number of colors), and then to png.
