I don't think the previous expansions were better, for example...

On one hand, I agree, because the freshness of sensations and the novelty of the experience can greatly influence the final perception over the years, significantly inflating the objective assessment.
On the other hand, there are still a number of works that both evoked and continue to evoke the same warm and positive impressions in me, even when re-reading/playing/watching them, even 15+ years later.

Regarding the early expeditions, it's difficult for me to say definitively which of these applies more. Perhaps, there was a successful mix of both (and even some real-life factors) that allowed me to create a very warm and fun atmosphere, which has remained in my memory for a long time.
