At first, though, it wasn't all smooth: there were no stone piles anywhere, and I had forgotten that Liches require 10 sulfur, not the four from HotA. Additionally, I had to squeeze in some zombies.
Fortunately, I didn't have to suffer for long: I broke through a couple of 3ks, entered an adjacent zone and found good roads, and most importantly and dearly: 3 sawmills nearby :smile23:
My native Dungeon turned out to be quite close, and it frayed my nerves a bit (killed 16 zombies in the Citadel), but the boost from its spawns is hard to overestimate: first of all, I found stone and sulfur there, as well as a mini Dwarf Cottage. Besides that, on day 6 with double mana, I managed to break the maximum Naga Bank and spread out almost to the maximum! And the best part: a Griffin Conservatory triple the following turn.
After that, a very pleasant and leisurely power-stacking ensued — squeezing the computer, breaking through 6ks. I got Town Portal on the third try, but Fly on the first.
But,
at the same time, which was a big surprise to me, the opponent was keeping pace with me in army strength and showing decent stats. However, I watched replays and didn't pay much attention to it. As it turned out, in vain!
On turn 132, Gunnar with 3600 movement points breaks the maximum Dragon Utopia, getting Wings, a Shield, a Helm, and 4/4 stats from it. Meanwhile, he also manages to jump into a one-way portal and take my Conflux from me, visiting a Well along the way.
The main thing is that with Wings and those stats, he easily took a couple of Dragon Fly Hives from the nearby portal with cheap heroes, which I had kindly left "for later".
At that moment, I hadn't yet rebuilt Dimension Door, and I intended to fly to take Dragon Utopias in the super-treja; essentially, that's what I did. Tant took a couple of Dragon Utopias, Town Portaled back, and Vidoma, though not very successfully, flew with Advanced Air Magic over the mountains (ran out of mana for Town Portal afterwards) to take a third.
I gathered stats, got KV, but, of course, I no longer had the same confidence in dominating. Moreover, I had left a couple of good heroes with stables near my main, set up for splitting. The opponent easily took my Castle the next day and killed those heroes. But he stayed in the castle, even though Town Portal had already been rebuilt there.
Essentially, the Bone Dragon upgrade is underway; businesslike Aislinne is legitimately leveling up from two Pandora's Boxes, takes a 4th Dragon Utopia, and gets from it, among other things, +4 All. Here, I must say, I played valiantly: to transport the army, I had to dig up a two-thousand-cost hero with stables — it cost over 30k. But I dug him up, transferred the power stack, and Tantilla with 600 mana successfully trapped Gunnar.
In the end, the deciding factor was that Gunnar only had Basic Earth Magic, and therefore couldn't fly away.
Thanks for the game!
