Well, 1GB of RAM is good, but 2GB is better! Especially if you really have Vista. If you have a licensed copy, the patches should install without problems, but you need to install them in order, for example, if your game version is 1.1, you can't immediately patch it to version 1.5. First 1.1, then 1.2... 1.5.
