Not sure about that. It seems more like a technological singularity (humans create advanced AI, which creates even more advanced AI, and so on, ad infinitum), but it's not quite that either. And evolution is natural selection and adaptation of life forms to survive in certain conditions. Cockroaches or tardigrades, for example, are just as much an example of successful evolution as humans. Because it doesn't imply that a life form will necessarily become, for example, smarter. In other words, with evolution, the situation is largely the same as in Alex's example with the axe.
As for humans creating some "perfect" life form in general, that's simply impossible. At least because ideas about perfection differ from person to person. I wouldn't be surprised if opinions on this matter differ greatly even among the people here.
