The HD mod + HW rules are almost perfect in terms of gameplay; all that's missing is fixing the generator's bugs (while preserving the gameplay) and improving the interface's usability. Anything else will lead to degradation.

Where did you get the information that it "completely destroys the hero gameplay"?
If it's so good and great, let them enable it with mutual consent. Forcing it will only lead to another wave of players leaving (either to HotA or nowhere).
