I haven't read any shojo manga or Twilight, but I think I have an idea of what you're talking about, and it seems... not very appealing. I've seen it in fanfiction about Genshin Impact and wondered why the girls don't give their suitors a good beating. Apparently, that's considered romantic. Keep that kind of romance far away from me.
