I remember when I was in college, we had a psychology class where they talked about the techniques of manipulation and how to lure people into cults. After class, I approached the professor and asked if it made sense to try to join a cult, and she looked at me like I was an idiot and said, "You probably don't quite understand what you're talking about. If you want a similar experience, but with less risk, try joining a youth political organization."
So, you're wrong to dismiss it so easily, Haven. Maybe they could actually give you a sense of purpose in life.
