Having paid and left Magnolia's shop, Moriner is struck in the head by a clay pot thrown from a window of a residential building. He loses consciousness and only regains it the next day, lying on a cot in the academy's infirmary.

"Well, it seems I caught a curse," was Moriner's first thought. With difficulty, he sat up and cautiously felt his bandaged head, sensing the growing pain. "And I knew it would happen! I should get rid of that awful statuette. But what if the effect is permanent? No, that can't be. You can't ruin your whole life for just 800 measly coins, right?" he thought hopefully.
