Three voted for a lenient punishment in the form of a month-long suspension from classes, while four voted for expulsion. According to rumors, the Helsward family tried to secure a reduction in the punishment, but Romeo refused to use their influence, just as he had refused to use their money during his studies at the academy. He accepted the punishment in full.
