I watched a series of Gomunguls with Stinger, playing from a first-person perspective. He tried to use diplomacy as much as possible (starting with diplomats), and it had a significant impact on the gameplay (at first, everything goes as usual, but then you suddenly get a free horde of harpies/spearmen, and that's a completely different game).
What I like most is how Wicc views diplomacy:
A good benchmark for balanced diplomacy in the game is that it should be a skill not for the main hero, but for a secondary hero, meaning that the main hero should develop according to standard schemes, but players would still try to level up the secondary hero with diplomacy skills and use them to explore the area for reserves to strengthen the workforce.
But in this case, I don't think that's achieved. Maybe all alliances should be made paid?
