He was doing well, initially he opened a gold mine and slowly cleared it. But his opponent didn't have a good start. He couldn't find enough resources.

He quickly built a guild, got a resurrected elf, but the map was bad. The gold mine was 6 days away from the castle, going around some mountain, there were a couple of gem piles for a few zones, and all the construction was tied to them. As a result, there were no battles, no druids, and no horse upgrades by the beginning of day 3. It was some kind of nonsense, so he gave up and surrendered.
