Starting from the closed beta up to the 0.8 demo version (demo 0.9 is essentially the official release – it has a couple of maps, but no campaigns or just a couple of maps from a campaign), he has exactly this icon, but the texture is already from the official release, and in the aforementioned alpha, he doesn't seem to be there (I don't remember exactly).
