Wow, that's harsh! Well, I'll answer directly then.
I used to be friends with a guy, back in school, I considered him my best friend, we communicated for over 10 years, I tried to support him as much as I could, when he was drafted into the army, I visited him with gifts, I was sure that I was ready to give my life for him if necessary.
The result: he treated me with contempt and constantly compared his achievements with mine (to his advantage, of course), and also borrowed money from me and didn't return it. At some point, he stopped communicating with me and inviting me to parties.
I was also in love with a girl once, well, that's obvious, I thought I was ready to do anything for her.
The result: in a conversation with me, she told me about a guy who had been in her friend zone for 5-6 years (it wasn't me, honestly) and that he had finally gotten out of her friend zone and now he's just a horny pig who only wanted one thing all along. And almost immediately after that, she told me about another guy who lied to her about not having a wife, children, or even his own name. Now she knows the truth and that he only needs her as a mistress when he's on business trips, but she doesn't mind, because he's cool. After that story, the love just faded away.
