Honestly, I don't see any downsides to point 1. Right now, there's no way to play tactically based on a 1-2 level spell because if you don't get it right away, you won't get it at all in the foreseeable future. But now, that possibility appears.
Regarding the Scholar – right now, it's essentially an unused unit because the probability of getting an unwanted skill is too high. But now, you can confidently take Scholars for casting and stats, leaving the option to take a chance with a Scholar for skills.

I'm thinking like this – I'm standing on the Dungeon, I can attack it, why can't I also see its size at the same time? Why do I have to move off it, right-click, and then move back onto it? Why can I do that in other Dungeons, but not in this one.
Yes, this is SOD, this is the core, this is native. Are you afraid to go into the Hive without a scouting unit and a weak army? Spend 200 mana and take a look. You're sitting in your stronghold, and there's a Scholar on the road. Play roulette and get either Eagle Eye or Earth, or don't get the skill, go around collecting scrolls and building Golems in other places. People have been playing like that for ages, and it's fine. If it's not fine for you, play HotA!
