The template pool is actually quite adequate, especially for offline play. As practice has shown, playing only hotkeys is for hardcore players. And as soon as a hardcore player agrees to play without hotkeys, everything starts to go wrong. Seriously, there's only one debatable point, which is 6lm10a. There are issues that make this otherwise excellent template perform poorly in certain situations (blocked roads, one-way streets). There are also similar issues in HotA (strange teleports in rough terrain leading directly to the opponent). I would suggest that when playing on Cherk on 6lm, you conduct that experiment – negotiate the version.
