After completing the first half of the first mission and collecting absolutely everything I could, I had a negative stat: -0-0-1-1. The next level was empty, and then it started to increase, and I didn't add anything to it myself. But there, you can play in waves, in a chain, and the spells of Darkness return when you learn the skill, plus the starting mana reserve of 250-300 helps you get through the first battles.
