Once again, someone may do something for free out of their own free will, but at the same time, they owe nothing to anyone.
And when you don't owe me anything, I can get something from you either by asking or by unlawful and criminal means.
At the same time, it doesn't demean me at all when I'm a guest at the table and ask to pass me the salt. And it doesn't demean my friends at all if they come to me with some kind of request.
