For some, and for the seasonal games, deviating from the rules is commonplace; they mix things up and adjust to what's most comfortable for everyone (or is this a revelation?).
But the point isn't that. If, according to this player's understanding (who has been playing for many years), it's not acceptable to discuss such issues with the judges (of which there are seven) in private messages in an ambiguous situation, but rather to resolve them by publishing the correspondence (which is considered bad form), and to declare himself the winner after revealing the map, then several questions arise about this player (which I quoted).
And revealing the map, even with good intentions, is an obvious 100% violation of the rules.
