The game takes place in Ashan, on the Egin peninsula, chronologically between the events of HoMM6 and HoMM7. The plot is related to the consequences (legacy) of Uriel's betrayal, which was revealed and exposed (events of HoMM6), and as a result, the tense situation both within the empire and between individual states, as well as strange events in Kertal (the coup and the city's closure).
