So, the first WoG campaign was clearly created based on "Emocon" or inspired by it. Or perhaps it was simply easier not to come up with something completely new from scratch, but to take something ready-made and adapt it.
Regarding understanding battles with such troops, as in that campaign, it's very debatable (I didn't get very far, so I don't know what's closer to the end). As someone wrote, the campaign was primarily created to demonstrate the new possibilities of WoG in terms of mapmaking: scripts, objects, etc.
