You might want it, but for the most part, it turns roleplaying into a dance around a "special child" and a pathetic repetition of certain verbal and behavioral gimmicks. You say something like a retard, twitch your claws-eyebrows-tail, do something stupid, and you sit there satisfied – yeah, I played it well.
Or the other extreme – standard roleplaying of a reasonable person, polite speech, rational actions, and so on, and everyone treats you like a random passerby, and it turns out that you've just played an ordinary human, only one that looks like a monster. Why even choose a non-human then – it's unclear.
As sad as it is, non-humans are essentially unnecessary in an expedition.
However, if you don't bother with roleplaying and just walk around like a dummy, farming quests, searching corpses, and writing posts in gray text or in one line, then there probably isn't a difference.
