I don't know exactly how, but for example, in the map ""A Dracolish Helmet"" by Grigor Minchev (specifically in the WoG version), there are 3 heroes with specializations in WoG creatures:
Grig can upgrade Dread Knights or Blood Dragons to Dracolishes. Sylvia can upgrade Wights and Wraiths to Ghosts. Darkllus can upgrade Walking Dead or Zombies to Mummies.
You can check the map properties: there are events with scripts (day 672) that assign special properties to heroes and cities and some WoG rules.
