Isn't creating an entirely new world, Ashan, and discarding the lore from previous installments in terms of plot an insult to the fans?

Well, I would say it is an insult to the fans of the Might and Magic universe.

Who can tell me now how Lysander turned out to be a descendant of Gryphonheart? and so on... :(

Apparently, he is not Gryphonheart's son (because that's nonsense), but the son of one of Catherine's sisters.
In general, Axoth is quite well connected to the Might and Magic universe. Perhaps because this world was conceived back in 1995. Although, I don't think it was necessary to introduce Axoth after Might and Magic VIII.
