Alaria couldn't help but thank herself for deciding to read the newspaper after she had finished her meal. She wasn't sure that the first article wouldn't spoil her appetite for the rest of the day. The Reima police had once again shown their worst side. One could argue anything, using the killer's extensive experience, impeccable record, and the fact that the crime had been planned for months as arguments, but it wouldn't change the situation. This time, their incompetence not only allowed the criminal to escape but also to attempt an assassination. And even if the Empress survives, such a blow to the police's reputation will not go unnoticed. Alaria tried not to think about what would happen if Sonata died. It wouldn't mean anything good for the Empire. The girl read the remaining articles without much enthusiasm. The opinions of random people about the contests didn't worry her much, nor did the coverage of yet another event that damaged the reputation of the capital's police. Only the news about the Eisenbach Palace could be called pleasant. And even that was a stretch; everything sounded too suspicious.
