How should a baby dragon grow?

He appears so late in the game that I highly doubt anyone would bother to raise him. I only played Dungeon once with a Druid in the party. I got the Dragon literally within a week or two after finishing the game. After completing the game, I didn't feel like running around just to raise a Dragon.
