What exactly was changed in the .exe file to remove the RAM limit?!

Nothing. The executable from Tribes of the East was used, with patches related to the game mechanics applied, and minor changes unique to the Remake were made. In other words, the new executable is the same as the old one, but without the patch.

A small utility was used to expand the visible memory for the old executable, but in practice, it turned out that the game started behaving erratically if not run as an administrator. GSC maps were not saved, the skill wheel did not work, and so on.
