The game begins with martial chords, and on all territories of the Griffin Empire, rebellions and popular uprisings are raging. Warriors, dissatisfied with the rule of Queen Isabel, separated themselves from her and declared her a dictator. Isabel didn't think for long and sent her devoted servants on a campaign against the rebels: Alaric (a local priest), Frida (a female warrior), and Laslo (a ruthless enforcer).
The campaign against the rebels began. Under Frida's banners stood the best soldiers, so she managed to deal with the "rural" simpletons quite easily. But the further Frida moved away from the center of the empire, the more new and new rebels she encountered. Soon it turned out that the rebels were creatures of hell. Whoever Frida encountered, they all turned into demonic offspring. Isabel's inquisitors (Alaric and Laslo) declared all the rebels heretics. Their hatred for their former compatriots grew to the heavens. The main goal of the punitive campaign was the leader and head of the rebellion - Duncan. Frida instantly found the culprit and was about to kill him, but something stirred in her heart, and she let the stranger go. She only managed to tell Duncan about her father and the imperial inquisition. Then Frida did not dare to flee with Duncan. But later, when the imperial troops reached the borders of the northern peoples - the dwarves, she sided with the rebels. The dwarves called Isabel's executioners vile traitors and declared war. The "Hammers of Fate" campaign unfolds in roughly these colors.
Mountain Kings
Of course, there were also additions. The game features two races: the first of them is the Renegades (modified warriors, still from the Griffin Empire, but with stronger armor and many times increased attack, the appearance of the troops acquired a red hue - the color of blood), and also the Dwarves (underground miners, hardworking people, skilled mechanics, and undoubtedly the bravest warriors). The Renegades characterize themselves as: cruel, restless, deranged legionaries, their goal is to fulfill the queen's will. All units of this race have been modernized; archers have received additional armor and accuracy, paladins have acquired bloody robes and "iron" strength, monks have suddenly become bald and insane, and angels have turned to the dark side.
The Dwarves are an unusual race with their own tricks, subtleties, and refinements in magic. Their warriors, although distinguished by valor and courage, do not cope very well with hated enemies in small groups. To make your army truly all-powerful and resolute, you will have to work hard. First, you will be content with crumbs in the form of initial units, then, having accumulated resources and all sorts of benefits, you will move on to the second level of buildings, and, accordingly, units. Surprisingly, the middle troops do not pose any threat to the enemy until there are several hundred, or even thousands of them. Those who chose the dwarves will have to work hard to see the full grandeur of the dwarven people.
When you finish upgrading various buildings and types of troops, then you will become truly all-powerful. Fire dragons will come to your service; they can easily annoy any potentially dangerous army. So don't forget about improvements. Progress, as you know, works wonders. Here is your miracle. But the most interesting novelty, in my opinion, is rune magic. Unlike ordinary magic, rune magic is used, for the most part, by your loyal soldiers. The hero only improves his skills so that your most valuable little friends can use runes to their full potential. Each warrior can increase their attack, defense, and increase their speed by one turn. Those who have chosen the difficult path and stopped at the race of dwarves have not made a mistake, which means they will also win.
Of course, the developers had to work on the game balance. But what can you do for your homeland? By the way, I forgot to mention one mini-change. Now, so as not to waste time on your hero's travels to the castle and back, or on building eternally scarce units in the fortress, you are helped by wagons. These very wagons transport hired soldiers to different places on the map. From here, you save precious minutes and turns to perform more important tasks.
In "Hammers of Fate" there are three interesting campaigns. You will follow the path of Frida, tame the traitorous shackles of Isabel, meet new representatives of the heroic composition, and walk the path in a cold, but at the same time kind land, live with responsive and simple miners. There is also a "skirmish" mode in which you can play on various maps: both random and scenario-based. They also didn't forget about multiplayer; before you are the expanses of the Internet, which means a lot of gamers from other cities and countries. Here, there are no laws, orders, prohibitions, and everything that follows from this. Find an equal opponent and fight him to the bitter end. Win and lose, become a swordsman or a mage, hone your virtual skills, and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of heroic deeds.

The graphics engine has not changed; the same smooth animation, the same elaborate textures, the same stunning special effects, and much more. Perhaps in the next add-on, the graphics will undergo some changes for the better.
The musical accompaniment is at the highest and most professional level. All the traditions that 3DO has been creating for so long have remained at the same level, and what was lacking has been patched up and updated. The voices of the characters are clearly heard in the speakers; there are no extraneous sounds, except for the menacing bass of your commanders and soldiers. The musical tracks smoothly flow from one to another; they can be compared to Viking songs, which sound so sweet. The quiet and peaceful atmosphere of "Hammers of Fate" will give you unforgettable hours in front of the monitor.
A poignant story...
The computer game Heroes of Might and Magic 5: Hammers of Fate has become a wonderful successor to Heroes of Might and Magic 5. A captivating campaign, diverse missions, an excellent graphics engine, epic musical accompaniment, many unusual innovations, a fantasy idyll - all this is "Hammers of Fate". The failures and defeats of the previous chapters of Heroes of Might and Magic have been replaced by grand victories. The universal recognition of the fifth part and its add-on showed that in Russia, too, they can make interesting and well-thought-out games with a remarkable gameplay, an entertaining plot, and excellent graphics. The fate of the fifth heroes is in the hands of Nival; I hope that these cheerful developers will give us more than one add-on and a full-fledged game.
