This is one of the reasons (though far from the main one) why that deck from the tier list is complete garbage. One Rift and two banishes - seriously, guys, I hope you don't do that. This isn't the first time I've seen a portal deck online with this kind of nonsense instead of three Rifts, and it really triggers me every time. In January, it was viable to play three Rifts plus three banishes because there was the Illusionist + a lot of Death. Now, banishes are no longer needed, and only retrogrades play with them; Death can be defeated without them, and they are literally not needed for anything else. But ignoring the Rift and playing with only ONE - you really have to be clueless. It's the best single-target removal in the game - better than Dance of Death. You just banish without hesitation, and it also draws you an artifact, and you control the Resonance. It's a billion targets for use in many matchups - any Valet neutrals, Aerin's creations, Dashkin's creations, Kektars, Alberts, just for 0 PP with a Deuce and Accelerate and Abuse artifacts, it helped me win dozens of games. But no, we don't want that; we want to play a crappy 2/2 unit for 3 mana on the third turn and forget about tempo. We'll take one Rift, as they said online, BECAUSE WE DON'T NEED MORE))) We also don't think about consistency or consecutive banishes. May fiberglass rain down on such people.
