As far as I know, there is no racial discrimination in Haven; it makes sense that both humans and elves are accepted into the Sylvan faction. However, the statement about Crag Hack is unclear; if the author is fixated on him, that's their problem. The Castle is perhaps the only town where you don't necessarily need to choose a specific hero at the start – almost any hero will provide a decent start, except for Oris, who will be less effective due to his subpar skills and specialization.
