By the way, the system works the same for both downvotes and upvotes. I've noticed for a while that the morality system on Hv is quite flawed. For example, I have one negative rating that's offset by several positive ones, but the latter are displayed as "morale remains unchanged."

I suspect that it's not flawed, but rather a well-thought-out defense against hate and manipulation. I'm not sure, but it seems that you can't significantly affect a person's morale if it's higher than yours.
For example, your downvotes didn't affect my morale at all: p :p :p
