Here's my IMHO: "rat-like" (or rather, like reptiles) tails and sharp teeth are what demons should have, and horns are generally an essential attribute of evil in the world at all times.

Demons and overlords, so what?)))) These are just my personal associations! Horns are more like symbols of "villainy," although I don't object to the fact that demons have them! The symbol of chaos is disorder, and the presence of horns on the heads of evil is a kind of organization and standardization!
