That's strange. I can access the data.pak file in Heroes 5 using WinRAR, without even changing the file extension. I simply set "use this application for all files of this type" in the properties, and I haven't had any problems since. In Heroes 3, it's obviously different.
Well, I don't know about Heroes 5, but I used to work with these archives in Heroes 3, but I've forgotten how or with what program. And now I can't find anything to open them with. And it's not ".pak" but ".pac", these are different formats after all.
