The time it takes to complete an author's map depends on the player's skill, the decisions they make, and the actions they take, as well as on the author. Sometimes, the latter makes a speedrun fundamentally impossible: for example, on one map, I had to spend 4 in-game months gathering creatures to give them to the guard at the entrance to the next zone, and on another, I spent 6 months gathering resources for the guard. Neither of these can be sped up, only through cheating or by editing the map in advance to add resources or creatures in the right place and at the right time, which is also unfair.
