Continuing the theme of ancient horror and twisted madness from yesterday's post, I'll return once more to my favorite old anime, Revolutionary Girl Utena.
Especially since a decent review finally appeared on kinopoisk, I quote:
Shoujo Kakumei Utena is an encyclopedia of rape, a journal of suicide hotline recordings. At the same time, a third of it is filled with nonsensical episodes in the style of Ranma, only for some reason it's not funny (almost all episodes with Nanami), a third is an unbearable depiction of the life of a young girl with all the consequences (ugh, damn kids), and it has only a few human episodes.
What qualifies it as a masterpiece is the author's cry of the soul, a stream of pain for the weaker sex. Starting with a beautiful fairy tale about a noble girl who decided to become a prince and protect the weak, Ikuhara sends her princess to lose her virginity in a motel, where, looking at the ceiling at an important moment in her life, she will invent a dinner recipe from the leftovers in the refrigerator. The sensei really likes to put on a pretty dress, braid her hair, and then pull on it to bang her head against the wall until she bleeds.
Well, this is something.
Because usually, anime just reviews some kind of childish "Romashka" series.
On the other hand, in the English-speaking Internet, it's all Freudianism and feminism, so it's unclear what's worse.
