Well, if it's a league, there are home games and away games, meaning you play against SOD/HotA. When playing away, the opponent chooses the version; that would be fair. Both HotA players and SOD players would learn both versions. You could also make paid and free leagues as an option; whichever is less popular would eventually die out. To avoid rescheduling games and other issues, have a specific schedule, for example, a week (or two) to play against a specific opponent. Odd by default is Saturday-Sunday at 2:00 PM; if you don't show up, you lose points and wait for the next game week (allow players to play rounds earlier by mutual agreement). If a player misses more than 3 games, they are disqualified and moved to the lowest league, for example, with -30 points. Yes, you can come up with all sorts of things))).
Everyone played SOD, but many didn't even install HotA, and it would turn out that playing away is like playing soccer on sand; some trained to play that way, while others only saw how it is to run on sand, and most likely the game will be lost.
